In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 we deliver discrete Maths lessons to ensure coverage of all aspects of the National Curriculum.

Mathematics

Discrete daily Mathematic lessons teach the skills of the National Curriculum for Mathematics.

The new Mathematics Curriculum is a mastery one, therefore we aim to ensure a deep understanding of the mathematical concepts taught. Key measures of this are the ability to reason mathematically and to solve increasingly complex problems and to do so with fluency. Therefore, there are regular opportunities for children to apply their maths skills to different problems within maths lessons and across the curriculum. This also allows our children to revisit, practise and consolidate different areas of maths and apply them within different contexts.

We also place great importance on children learning and becoming fluent in key mathematical skills, concepts and facts. This is key to building a secure foundation on which to build mastery knowledge. To enable our children to achieve this, each Key Stage completes a Big Maths session each week, where children practise and consolidate these skills.
